What Is A Wood Varnish?
A Wood Varnish is unique from Wood Stain in a lot of ways - but mostly it has to do with two things: Color, and Penetration. While a wood stain may deeply penetrate the wood surface you are staining, a varnish is meant to stay on the surface and typically is made to harden on the outside layer of the wood. While wood stains are typically colored, wood varnishes are mostly clear and are meant to give a sort of armor to the outside of your wooden surface to help with protection. Typically varnishes are sold with many terms related to the use of the wood or the protection within, like 'High Traffic' or 'Protective Coating'. In many cases a Wood Varnish may also be referred to as a Polyurethane.
